President's Message

A Word From Our President, Penny Garcia

Dear FACC Members,

My name is Maria Lupe Estrada de Garcia, also known as “Penny”. I am excited

to announce that I am your new President. I was born and raised in Pueblo and

graduated from Central High School and Pueblo Jr. College. I have three children,

two girls and one son.

I have been very active in the Pueblo community doing various things like

working with the Colorado State Fair and belonging to social groups. I was a

member of Cameo Club for 40 years. My duties in the club were President,

Secretary, and Treasurer. I was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for 5 years. After

that I became active with FACC starting as a member then secretary, membership

chair and now your President for FACC.

I retired from Candy’s Tortilla Factory and worked at Estrada Foods as a

receptionist. My father was Candelario Estrada from Chihuahua, Mexico. My

mother’s name was Emily Chavez born in Torreon, NM.

I am now President of the Fray Angelico Chavez Chapter in which I am deeply

grateful to serve. I see a lot of good things coming to our chapter like more

speakers, genealogy research, and field trips.

I have a great executive board, including members at large and with these good

people, we will have a great chapter.

Regarding our monthly meetings, in January the honorable Joe Ulibarri officiated

our inauguration: Penny Garcia-President, Silvestre Arteaga-Vice President, Bob

Craig-Treasurer, and Carmen Arteaga-Secretary. Members at large are Steve Cruz,

Bob Trujillo, Joe Martinez, and Bob Vigil. This is FACC’s new board. I could not

ask for a better one.

Also, in February we had the very knowledgeable David Sandoval, Ph. D. who

gave a presentation on the “American Invasion of New Mexico”.

In the month of March members of FACC volunteered to talk about our

“Abuelos” or family stories/research. Kathy Pacheco gave her presentation on the

Gallegos Family. Ely Trujillo spoke of his growing up in NM and here in Colorado.

 Respectfully Yours,

 Penny Garcia
